Migrate your applications - get back in the game!
It has been in the news: many companies are still working with Windows 7, an operating system that has not been supported since January 2020. As a result, no less than 12 percent of all computers are at great risk of hacking. But what does this mean in concrete terms? And how can you easily prevent your company from being held hostage?
Maybe you’ve been in business for a while … And right now, you are in a situation where you face legacy Windows Server applications, critical to your business, that you can’t move to a newer, supported version of Windows Server. Your colleagues or customers are giving you reasons why you can’t move those applications, or maybe the application itself depends on a specific version of Windows Server. It may even be the case that the installation media or source code has been lost.
Since January 14, 2020, Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 were no longer supported, which put a lot of businesses in the situation described above. You are not alone. Using apps that are only compatible with an unsupported Windows Server is problematic since it raises great security risks. Your applications won’t receive any updates - and consequently – security patches anymore. It becomes a Sword of Damocles. You know you have to do something about these legacy applications, but you’ve been postponing it for a while.
Let’s do something about it and tackle the problem hands-on. It can be tempting to spend (a lot of) money on extended support services, but this only delays the inevitable. Long-term solutions are what we need to aim for. This means that you need to move the application to another platform that does get that required support. Is it possible to do so without significant refactoring and in the fastest way possible?
One of the easiest options Tobania offers is the “AWS End-of-Support Migration Program (EMP) for Windows Server”, developed by the Amazon Web Services. This new program combines technology with expert guidance. The service migrates your old applications that run on outdated versions of Windows Server to newer, supported versions on AWS.
The main advantage? A unique solution to solve the problem in the long term, instead of muddling along. Also, you won’t have to make any changes in the code of your application. The original installation media or source code are not required.
Sounds like music to your ears? We are happy to support you with this solution: we’re all about making it easier for you. And about keeping your (cyber)world safe. Let’s talk about it: Tobania.Cloud
